About our Artist

André Kan is a Toronto based painter with over a decade of experience in the creative field. Along with being an accomplished painter and muralist, André furthers his creative pursuits as a photographer, musician, and art curator. André’s work can be seen around the globe with permanent collections in both the United States and China and signature murals in London, Spain, Portugal, and Taiwan.

André has a distinct interest in spatial structures. Using shapes and space, his work explores the interconnectivity of cause and effect. André’s signature architectural approach reflects his journey through self-discovery. His structures depict change in the evolution of space, while also questioning the fundamental nature of existence.

“As a Chinese-born Canadian, Lunar New Year is a time when my family comes together to celebrate our roots, heritage, and fills us with the spiritual fuel to take on the new year. This chalice includes iconic objects and symbols inspired by my family’s reunion dinner, such as traditional Tang Yuan (rice balls), a central dish that symbolizes togetherness.”

Lunar New Year is a very special time for André. This chalice explores Andre’s experience with family and culture during a celebration of good health and fortune for the year to come.
